Light of Christ

The "Light of Christ" is a program for Tiger Cubs and Wolf Scouts of the Catholic faith.

This is a parish and family oriented program in which the Cub Scout works with his parents. Its purpose is to have the Scout develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, as a real person and his friend. This type of relationship will help him to better understand and appreciate Christ's love and concern for him. Through the active assistance and participation of the Scout's parent in this program, it is hoped that he will come to see Jesus as a real person and his friend.

The objectives of the program are as follows:

  1. To support the role of the parents as the primary catechists of their children.

  2. To have the Scout identify Jesus as a real person and as his friend.

  3. To foster early family religious involvement.

  4. To be a stepping stone toward Parvuli Dei and the other religious emblems, when the parents are involved.

  5. To serve as a catalyst to draw the parents into a deeper involvement with the church, through the child.

Each Scout has an individual Light of Christ record book which costs $1.25. Upon completion of the program, the Cub Scout is presented with the Light of Christ emblem. This is a pendant suspended from a bar. The BSA has authorized the wearing of this emblem on the Cub Scout uniform. The appropriate Scout knot can be worn on the uniform to indicate that the emblem was earned.

Parvuli Dei

The "Parvuli Dei" is a program for Bear and Webelos Cub Scouts of the Catholic faith.

This is a parish and family oriented program in which the Cub Scout works with his parents.
Its purpose is to help young boys explore a wide range of activities in order to discover the presence of God in their daily lives as members of their family and parish, and also to develop a good positive self-image through the contributions they can make to the group or community.

The program activities are simple ones. They are family oriented, and much of the success of the program depends upon the parents or other adult who acts as an advisor to the child. There are five steps, and these are usually completed in about five months.

Each Scout purchases an individual Parvuli Dei activity book.  Upon completion of the program, the Cub Scout is presented with the Parvuli Dei emblem. This is a pendant suspended from a bar. The BSA has authorized the wearing of this emblem on the Cub Scout uniform. The appropriate Scout knot can be worn on the uniform to indicate that the emblem was earned.
